Paper considers testing of certain theories concerning commercial vehicle trip generation using data relating to manufacturing plants in Medway Towns, England; preliminary analysis is given of trips per plant which indicates that size of plant is significant variable in explaining commercial vehicle trip generation; subset analysis shows trip generation based on number of employees; tentative evidence suggests family of curvilinear trend lines when commercial vehicle trips are regressed against plant characteristic, such as employment; higher trend line, and therefore greater trip generating character of industry represented, results in less concave shape of trend line.
