Railroad stations first became associated with coin-operated vending at Mansion House Underground station, London, in 1880s and to postcards were soon added matches, cigarettes, cigars and confectionery; automatic machines are used on main platforms to provide hot drinks, cold drinks and milk, with battery of machines dealing with cigarettes, sweets, and like; another typical machine will supply without reload 650 iced, still or carbonated fruit-flavored drinks from space of only 26×26 in. in floor plan area, and this includes essences, CO2 gas and 650 drinking vessels.
