First streamline locomotive No. 8768, built at Altoona shops of Pennsylvania Railroad; length of engine and tender 95 ft; weight 337, 850 lb; comparative wind-resistance tests with models of locomotive, tender and one coach, made at wind-tunnel speeds of 100 mph, showed that air resistance was reduced from 896 hp with conventional locomotive to 600 hp with streamliner; smoke-lifting device.
