Analysis was carried out to determine design requirements and performance characteristics of hybrid vehicle containing internal combustion engine, batteries, generator, traction motor, and power conditioning; mathematical model was developed and programmed on analog-digital computer and system design evaluated by measuring its performance characteristics when operated over realistic driving missions, that is, urban operations and high speed cruising; results show that presently available components or those which could be developed in near term can be combined to offer vehicle propulsion system with improved fuel economy.
