Paper compares power plants from viewpoint of economic propulsion; method is based on mission analysis determining performance of aircraft with various engines installed; it is found that suitably optimized dry turbojet offers substantial size and range advantages for Mach 3 transports; such engines result in large installed thrust-to-weight ratios at takeoff, thus shortening runway requirements and improving initial climb rates.
