Study made by Socony Mobil Oil Co, on road octane number depreciation of catalytic reformate gasolines; findings show that tetramethyl lead (TML) is most effective in minimizing depreciation; substitution of TML for TEL increases its road octane number performance in manual transmission cars by virtue of its superior distribution characteristics and in manual and automatic transmission cars by virtue of its higher intrinsic antiknock value in aromatic type stocks.
