Starting and acceleration demand high partial volatility, maximum power and high fuel efficiency, relatively high end point in distillation test; problem of suiting engines to fuels; further improvement based upon increase in compression ratio; comparison of per-mile cost; no economic advantage in buying anti-knock fuels at 3-cent premium if engine having compression ratio of 5.5 to 1 can be operated on ordinary gasoline.
