Testing of S-IV upper stage is conducted by Douglas Aircraft Co at Sacramento, Calif, Test Center; propulsion system for S-IV consists of 6 Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Co RL10A-3 rocket engines, capable of generating total of 90,000 lb thrust at altitude; engines were designed for high-altitude start and operation and require altitude simulation system to permit sea level static testing; steam jet ejector in combination with diffuser is used to simulate altitude conditions; performance of altitude simulation system, and problems encountered in making it operational.
