Electric traction of three sections of German Federal Railways (Silesian Mountain Ry., Magdeburg-Leipzig-Halle line and Bavarian Ry.) has produced considerable economy in locomotive running sheds, number of electric passenger locomotives required has been shown to be but 60 per cent of number of steam engines necessary for same service; this economy is not, however, so apparent with freight traffic.
