Important role which engineers and research have played in development of turbojets; development of Navy jets; vulnerability of turbojet engine to foreign object damage, combat damage, intake icing and corrosion; compressor, combustion chamber, turbine section, and main bearing failures; fuel controls and pump; it is concluded that turbojet engine will play ever increasing role in naval aviation, but will not completely supersede propeller driven airplane.
