Three speeds involved in its operation: speed of air at infinity downstream, speed of air at infinity upstream, and speed of rotation, are of same order of magnitude; by suitable choice of propeller dimensions to obtain supersonic relative flow along blade, losses due to compression, are eliminated; direct mounting of propeller on turbine shaft gives supersonic turbopropeller group simplicity that characterizes supercharger. English translation from Actes du Colloque International de Mecanique, Poitiers 1950.
