When new weapon is evolved, new ship, craft or vehicle may have to be developed in size and mobility required to carry such weapons; new designs are not proposed however for specific function or overall mission until it has been determined that existing ships or craft are not suitable; review of types of ships, landing craft, boats, amphibians and tanks that were designed for use in World War II illustrating this concept.
