Unstable combustion in liquid propellant rocket engines is discussed with reference to research conducted at Purdue Univ; unstable combustion in solid propellant rocket engine is considered and investigations conducted for determining influence of large number of parameters on acoustic instability reviewed; effects of following parameters -- shape of flow channel, mean combustion pressure, propellant temperature prior to ignition, length-to-port-diameter ratio of propellant grain, metal casing, oxidizer in composite propellants and scaling of rocket motors.
