Means of satisfying atmospheric storage problem consist of encapsulating insulation volume within hermetically sealed, flexible plastic jacket, and evacuating jacket to required degree of vacuum; external bearing pressure of 1 atm will compress insulation, reducing its thickness and increasing its thermal conductivity; large scale tests in liquid hydrogen service using model space tankage indicate approach warrants further work.
