Paper summarizes 2 CODAG (combined diesel and gas turbine) applications which U S Coast Guard plans to put into operation; first application is tested and installed in 210-ft reliance class cutter; primary design characteristics of ship, which, being twin-screw, is powered on each shaft by one 1580-hp diesel engine, and one 1000-hp gas turbine driving through suitable pneumatic clutches to common reduction gear, and then to 4-bladed 7 ft 6 in. diam controllable reversible pitch propeller; second application, 350-ft high endurance vessel, is in design stage; characteristics and power plant planned.
