Design study was made in 1958-59; it is argued that vessel can be justified for special duties; work at Saunders-Roe on Mitchell submarine specifically considered submarines for carrying iron ore, throughout year and irrespective of sea ice conditions, from Diana Bay region of Canada to Great Britain; economic evaluation involved tonnages of 15,000, 28,000 and 60,500 dw, using Mitchell Eng boiling water reactor for propulsion; arrangement diagrams; manufacturing, maintenance and operating limitations, and carriage of alternative cargoes are noted.
