Method of analysis, based on velocity charts, simplifies planning and calculating stages of travel and visualizes effect of orbital changes on eventual orbits; use of velocity charts based on principles outlined includes launching, orientation in space, choice of and change in direction; mathematical basis for velocity charts are nondimensional formulas expressed as ratios of velocity components at any orbital position to another reference velocity; use of charts is shown for orbital determination in space, planning of rendezvous operation, and for Moon travel orbits.
