Usual procedure in calculating cooling process in wake behind blunt object is to assume region of pure expansion up to distance where pressure has reached its ambient value, followed by region where mechanism of pure heat conduction is operative; in paper both mechanisms are assumed to be valid simultaneously, and result is compared with previous calculations; example is given; pertinence to problems describing meteors and objects re-entering earth's dense atmosphere.
