Increased attention being given to ocean in general and to greater depths in particular will eventually result in construction of fixed undersea facilities such as underwater storage tanks, sonar stations, and mining structures; to minimize servicing and maintenance, materials used must be capable of combating fouling and attack by life found in ocean; preliminary survey of various marine organisms and damage they inflict on materials used in ocean is reported. Synopsis of U S Naval Civ Eng Laboratory -- Tech Report 182 Mar 1962.
