Principle consists of attaching flexible members to bottom of craft's periphery to improve performance of vehicle by raising main structure; for given values of loaded weight, speed and operating range, comparison is made between rigid and skirted craft; skirt gives improved wave capability and considerable reduction in installed power; capital cost is reduced, payload increased by nearly 3 times and operating cost reduced to less than 1/4; principal features of convoluted skirt are differential stiffness and considerable peripheral stretch; results of tests.
