Operations include falling, bucking, yarding, loading, transportation, sorting, and grading; advances include use of trailer relay systems, multiple truck loads up to 300,000 lb in trains up to 160 ft long, skidding grapple device for wheel tractors, Utilizer portable barker and chipper (chips right in woods), self-propelled telescopic towers with reduced move and rig-up time, and guylineless tower yarders for short-haul jobs; balloon logging experiments shave proved successful for yarding of up to 10 tons of logs over rugged terrain at speeds up to 25 mph.
