Design features selected for throttling and pulsing operation of spacecraft-maneuvering engine and development of 100-lb-thrust storable propellant engine (model 8414); test data, at 100,000- to 240,000-ft pressure altitude, include throttling and pulse operation characteristic velocity, thrust coefficient, and specific impulse- and impulse bits down to 2.5 lb-sec;fixed-injection-geometry engine was successfully throttled through 8 to 1 thrust range with specific impulse ranging from 290 sec at 100-lb thrust to 254 sec at 12-lb thrust; demonstrated 8 to 1 throttling capability of engine concept, extended by pulse modulation, is shown to yield dual mode effective thrust modulation ratio of 100 to 1.
