Analysis of effect of perturbations, due to wind in particular, on precision of sounding-rocket trajectories shows advantage of employing attitude control during first seconds of flight; concept is applied in BER stage, which is controlled during 20 sec of its burning by four cluster-mounted, low-thrust rockets; BER stage was first applied to BERENICE (whence its name) program and then to TITUS and TIBERE rocket projects, conceived by ONERA; controlling system uses signals from gyroscopic sensors; controlling law, adapted to characteristics of rocket whose small fins facilitate adaptation, is optimized statistically; performance characteristics achieved.
