Geostationary orbit may be considered finite space of one dimension, line encircling Earth in plane of equator at distance about 23,000 mi from its center; geostationary position offers such advantages that most satellite communications systems now under consideration anticipate its use; estimate of amount of communication traffic which could pass through each longitude degree of stationary orbit per hertz of frequency for given antenna size is presented.
