Presents example to show that, for land transport over steep grades propeller has advantage over driving wheels; this is most important result, for it may lead to radical change in methods of working lines in mountain districts; of still greater importance is application of propellers to land transport over grades too severe for adhesion lines; if propeller is substituted for driving wheels, there is no limit to gradient which may be ascended; such a system of propulsion could be adopted in place of that used on funicular railways; problem of security remains to be solved, that is, stopping of vehicles on inclined plane in case of motor failing.
