A new instrument of freight transportation, unit freight container, will permit profitable rail handling of much of traffic now trucked greater distances, and will necessarily result in restoration of this traffic to railways; container will use both highway vehicle and railroad in portions of total movement for which they are best fitted; most important collateral benefits are: faster handling of freight from shipper to consignee; relief of terminal congestion; elimination of theft and damage claims; reduction in packing and carting costs; reduction in rolling stock devoted to L. C. L. service.
