Intercity transport requirements and requirements of commercial V/STOL vehicles; first-generation 250-mph V/STOL offers much improved travel times over train and second-generation 400-mph V/STOL aircraft will be advantageous to short-haul distances above 250 mi; regions with short-haul transportation problems such as northeast corridor region encompassing Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, California region (San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego) are analyzed and Northeast Europe situation is likened to that of United States northeast corridor; typical V/STOL airport designs and locations are proposed; design of Lockheed CL-1026 30-passenger compound-helicopter and Lockheed CL-879 air commuter.
