Airline simulation analysis of intercity short haul service in United States Northeast Corridor was carried out by Lockheed-California Co; it was assumed that service can begin in 1971 with Lockheed VTOL CL-1026 30-seat, rigid rotor compound aircraft; by 1975, Lockheed VTOL C L-1090 95-place winged-rotor compound aircraft will be in demand; to demonstrate that VTOL aircraft are both competitors and assistants to conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) jet transports following types have been used in analysis -- CTOL A 72-seat aircraft cruising at 550 mph and CTOL B 250-seat aircraft cruising at 570 mph; results of analysis show that VTOL aircraft will reduce number of CTOL required in short range airline flights.
