Study was carried out by Vought Aeronautics Div, LTV Aerospace Corp to evaluate practices of V/STOL wind tunnel testing; initial study consisted of analyzing wind tunnel data obtained with models of XC-142 airplane which identified some of problem areas; three additional tests were performed with same model but in different size test sections; four-propeller tilt-wing model was employed, but knowledge gained is also applicable to other types of V/STOL airplanes; it was found that some testing practices for conventional models are not adequate for V/STOL models; key factors that separate conventional and V/STOL testing are balance interference tares, model power, and angle-of-attack range.
