Method of calculating scantlings within ice-belt of ice-going ships; it is based on plastic theory and ice-pressure for design purposes is evaluated from ice-damages of existing ships; suitable safety against ice-damage is proposed; longitudinal side framing, thickening of plating to cover corrosion and wear due to ice, etc, are considered; it is noted that novelty of presentation is that ice-strengthened parts are designed to stand certain ice-pressure, and are not dimensioned as increase in scantlings on percent basis, which is done in present rules.
