Tests on ship-shaped model are discussed and approximate method is suggested for predicting torsional behavior of shipshaped thin-walled beams; it is suggested that when loading conditions with certain holds empty are proposed, resulting in bending moment maxima away from amidships, then additional torsion stresses have to be carefully watched; another reason for caution in open ships is that any fractures in narrow strip of deck are bigger potential danger than in wide deck; as far as deformations are concerned, calculated values are relatively large, and how well closing appliances will cope with these depends on their designs.
