Study was conducted to ascertain feasibility of facility capable of producing high velocity and high Reynolds number environment; most promising were magnetic annular arc tunnels and expansion tubes as single-stage techniques, and shock tunnel driving j×B accelerator as two-stage technique; results of techniques and devices used are presented; experimental performance of magnetic annular arc implies that it can achieve environment considered, but research directed more specifically to this goal must be performed to fully evaluate its potential.
