Early studies of NASA Manned Orbital Research Laboratory (MORL) concept led to conclusion that solar-cell/battery power system should be selected because of its proven technology; however, Pu-238 system appeared to be preferable alternative because of such operational advantages as freedom of vehicle orientation and minimum interference with extravehicular activity and with experiments and equipment located outside laboratory; study of design of 11.0-kwe Pu-238 radioisotope Brayton-cycle power system and of integration of system into MORL vehicle was undertaken; results include system description and performance specification; it is concluded that system is attractive and superior to other isotope power systems.
