PVA fibers were treated with trichloroethyl phosphite, for simultaneous production of nonflammable and water-resistant fibers in single step, so that fibers could be used immediately after formation; phosphorus-containing fibers do not dissolve in boiling water, and do not burn or glow after prolonged boiling in tap water; these fibers have ion-exchange and rotproof properties.
