Effect of external urban environment on pedestrian travel rates were studied; environmental factors studied which appear to affect pedestrian travel rates include time of day, external influences, and temperature; variations between male and female pedestrian rates were noted; influence of trip purpose and other socio-economic factors on pedestrian travel in central districts, undertaken for variety of urban environments, are suggested as possible extensions of research.
