Captured Air Bubble is defined as sidewall air cushion vehicle, high speed waterborne craft that is inherently nonamphibous; some general vehicle comparisons and parametric results pointing to need for large multithousand-ton surface effect ships to fulfill transoceanic requirements; comparisons of theoretical drag predictions and experimental CAB drag data for smooth water and in straight-ahead waves; comparison of air propeller and waterjet propulsion systems, with latter showing efficiency advantages, particularly for medium "hump" speeds, which allows higher specific loading for given installed power; sample tradeoff indicating profitable design trends.
