Report of operating variables and emission characteristics of 1964 283 cu in. V-8 Chevrolet automobile; vehicle was used as laboratory tool in project to develop improved driving cycle to represent Los Angeles peak hour driving; exploratory tests to determine relationships between primary variables of intake manifold vacuum, engine revolutions per minute, and vehicle speeds and acceleration rates; emissions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides were determined for entire range of operating conditions; effect of prior operating modes on closed-throttle unburned hydrocarbon concentrations.
