Some of optical problems associated with conventional rear view mirror, convex mirrors, combinations of plane mirrors, and periscopes are considered; two basic kinds of complex optical systems are described; first is called "view finder" and second "folded telescope"; first presents image inside automobile on which driver must focus his eyes; second presents image which seems to lie far away so that driver can look into it without changing focus of his eyes; unconventional system is described, built of parallel cylindrical lenses and mirrors and operating as unit magnification telescope; models of latter system have been successfully installed in variety of automobiles.
