Application of pressure sensitivity, via mechanical load cells, to manikin results in more versatile instrument for development of comfortable car seats; in-vehicle or laboratory rig tests can be effected statically, giving quick assessment of degree of comfort on new model seat, and permitting early design changes to be made where necessary; it enables equally quick assessment of effect of modifications made to basic construction, padding, or covering of seat; it possesses necessary sensitivity to detect slight imperfections which would otherwise require many miles of road test to detect subjectively.
