Bridge cranes, trolley-equipped loading bridges, slewing crane transporters, and shipyard gantry cranes with their large spans, lifting capacities and traveling speeds must track if heavy stresses are to be avoided; similar stresses may cause variations in runway rails; these can be compensated for by giving hinged leg mounting three degrees of freedom and allowing fixed leg to turn; tracking of crane may be determined and controlled by measuring traveling distance of both legs or angle between runway and girder axis.
