Silicon rectifier a-c broad gage electric locomotives of 2400 kw manufactured in Japan and supplied to Indian Railways under third electrification plan are described; features of new WAG 2 class include mono-motor trucks, large motors with epoxy varnish insulation and laminated yokes weighing 4.1 kg/kw, silicon rectifiers, and stressed-skin construction that will resist end loading of 400 tons; WAG 2 has 32-tap high-tension tap changer with two 1200 kw traction motors connected permanently in parallel; type D J 15 L silicon rectifier cells are used. arranged eight in series with nine strings in parallel in each arm of main rectifier bridge.
