Photographs of night airglow layer at various geographical locations were taken from pilot's window of spacecraft with f/0.95, 50-mm focal length camera that was optically filtered to photograph spectral regions centered at 5577 and 5893 A; filter combinations with broader spectral coverage also were used; airglow layer is global phenomenon always visible above nighttime horizon, and thus has possibilities as attitude and position reference for orbiting and high-trajectory spacecraft; photographic equipment and procedures are described.
