Aircraft has to fit following flight regimes; orbital, hypersonic, supersonic transonic, and subsonic + landing; selection of right compromises between often contradictory conditions; problem of longitudinal stability; subsonic and hypersonic lift-drag ratio and aerodynamic heating are examined; it is shown that hypersonic lift drag ratio has to be determined by restraints which aerodynamic heating problem imposes on design.
