Model experiments and theoretical calculations show that with ring cluster nozzles several base flow patterns exist which vary in type with altitude; characteristic altitudes for change of base flow pattern determined, particularly, critical altitudes for flow reversal from atmospheric air flowing into base to backflow of hot exhaust gases toward base; flow parameters, base pressure, heat flux, and base thrust increments calculated.
