Missouri Pacific has cut tie distribution costs by 40%, and reduced hazard of injuries by use of special cars from which crossties can be easily ejected by sliding them lengthwise out sides; three cross partitions were installed in 50-ton gondola cars and openings 2 ft wide cut into sides of each compartment; mechanization of tie renewals and placing of this work on two or three year cycle are other two phases of cost reduction program.
