Experimental data were obtained at Ballistic Research Laboratories on growth of turbulent wakes up to 8000 calibers behind 1/4 in. and 1/8 in. spheres traveling at supersonic velocities; experimental determination of exponential coefficient in growth law is very difficult, if not impossible; by means of quasi-steady state assumption, effect of drag deceleration is eliminated and growth of far wake compared with theoretical predictions; agreement with L. Lees-L.Hromas theory in this region was found to be quite good.
