Hazards to aircraft (including military) arising from lightning, and protective measures to be taken; study of St. Elmo's fire indicates that there are 2 possible causes, friction charging by particles striking aircraft and induced charging when it flies into electric field caused by atmospheric conditions; radio interference caused by these types of charging and preventive measures; interrelation between lightning, St. Elmo's fire, and radio interference; what this interrelationship means in terms of protective measures.
