Firms of Boelkow, Heinkel and Messerschmitt jointly developed intercepter supersonic aircraft capable of VTOL; it is high wing monoplane with continuous, slightly swept wing; at each wing tip is swiveling pod with 2 engines lying behind center of gravity, and lift engines are installed in fuselage forward of center of gravity; number of lift engines could be varied between 2 and 4, according to range; construction of experimental aircraft which has nonreheat engines for speeds below Mach 1 and reheat engines for speeds above Mach 1; engines are Rolls-Royce RB.145; tests carried out and features of special hovering rigs.
