Thrust reverser proved to be very reliable turbojet accessory which operated successfully and economically for over 4 yr; it has merit of being aircraft carried braking system which is retractable and has small associated performance loss if properly installed; installation features which affect available reversed thrust; ingestion of gas or stones may severely limit thrust reverser effectiveness and prove expensive to airline operator in engine repairs if it is not dealt with during power plant design; method of simulating problem at model scale was established and confirmed by full scale results on several transports powered by Rolls Royce engines.
