Effect of various gasoline contaminants on carburetor operation is explained and results of accelerating pump and metering jet wear tests given; laboratory test method for determining "flooding index" is presented; to insure proper carburetor operation gasoline should be free of gum, gels, and water; flooding, rather than wear or blocking, is usually factor which limits maximum allowable fuel contamination entering carburetor.
